First-it's made in the USA, second-it does trap the dirt. I use this on the step to pass thru from the attached garage to the kitchen. Within the first day it cleaned the dogs muddy paws, and my shoes. Nothing will keep all dirt out but this keeps the majority of the dirt out of the house. The brown is a little lighter than I expected but it looks good. I would recommend this.
